Learning my way around a router

Today I jammed a bearing guided flush cut bit in Nick's router and trimmed the rim cap overhang. Using the router with the guide bit was a good time. Zip, zip, zip. It just goes where it's supposed to with none of the hassle of meticulously placing, clamping, and checking guide boards and slowly homing in on flush. On the other hand this Koa's grain is all over the place and hates power tools. This resulted in a rough surface most of the way around (tiny tearout) and one bad tearout that may present a problem. With any luck, rounding over the cap will clear most of the worst spot if I don't tear out more in the process. The color is also inconsistent from piece to piece. This is either cool or ridiculous. So much for blazing my own fancy trail. Next time I'll bow to sensibility (Nick) and use ebony. I am glad to get the cap cleaned up and finally see the trim package in all its glory. After one more layer and several trips around with more router bits the rim will be constructed!
