Laminating veneer

I finally managed to acquire unbacked more maple veneer to serve as a cross-grain backing for my thin curly maple rim veneer, so today's task was to whip up LMI All Wood Epoxy (it has a nice slow set time) and glue the strips. I'm using the technique from Irving Sloane's Making Musical Instruments. He builds entire banjo rims and drum shells from nine or so double strips. I'm just bolstering the face veneer I want on my block rim, but the technique is the same at this point in the process. There's wax paper in there to keep epoxy out of unwanted places and cork to spread clamping pressure evenly. In theory. Man, I hope I didn't mess this up, because that curly maple's looking fine.

Today's soundtrack: US Open radio and Eme shrieking in the monitor.

1st observation: The one bottle of epoxy looks like caramel topping for a macchiato. :) 2nd observation: That's a lot of clamps.

Haha. The resin is a bit caramel-like. The smell is a dead giveaway, fortunately, so there's no confusion. And I can always use more clamps :)
