Rough carving the heel, parts 2 and 3

Fun with chisels. Hacking out those primary facets was the most physically demanding work I've done. I definitely need to invest in a better bench and ergonomics and keep the chisels sharp (an art in itself) if I'm going to do it this way again. I'm fairly happy with the result. The next step in the classic method would be scraping, but the curly maple is not liking that idea. We'll see how it all sands out next.

Checking out some of Greg Galbreath's latest banjos, I'm thinking I could've been more aggressive with the contour of the ramps down to the heel cap. Maybe next time.
