Fabricating a fret tang nipper
April 5 2012, 4:46 AM
Fabricate: construct or manufacture (something, esp. an industrial product), esp. from prepared components.
Prepared components: (1) $12 nibbling tool.
Construction and manufacturing: 10 minutes filing a groove with a triangular file.
I've been getting lots of cool ideas from the forum at Kenneth Michael Guitars. I love StewMac, but I wasn't in the mood to drop cash on their fret tang nipper. I figured standing at the disc sander would do the job, but I wanted to try this KMG mod. It actually worked!
The whole time I was imagining filing it wrong and having to throw out the whole thing. I was shocked how well it worked right off the bat.
