Drilling the neck
November 29 2011, 7:31 PM
I wiggled out of potty training watch long enough to make a little sawdust tonight. The picture shows holes drilled for neck attachment hardware. Two steel cross dowels will slide down the hole in the top, with short lengths of wood dowel serving as a spacer and plug. Two brass bolts (not shown) will come through the rim and through the two holes in the neck heel into the cross dowels to secure the neck to the rim.
Clamping the neck to the side of the drill press table and drilling the heel holes straight was an interesting challenge. I'm pretty sure the manual would discourage drilling with the DP head rotated off center, but I don't know how else to do it with a 25" neck and a benchtop DP.
